The days smell different from Summer, especially as we step off the porch to catch the bus. A whiff of woodsmoke, damp morning fog and falling leaves all combine to make a distinct September smell. I finally sent a baby quilt off to Oregon to my cousin's first grandchild, born three months ago. I'll also enter a couple quilts in the Major's Inn Show in Gilbertsville on display the first weekend in October. It's a lovely excuse for a day trip.

September Again
School's started again and the year looks promising. J seems to enjoy his 5th grade teacher and enjoys his class except for the ratio of girls to boys, 2 to one. I've been making canvas tote bags with my wildlife designs on them. I finally retired my 20-year-old Singer that finally grinded and sputtered to a halt. I'm using R's machine and can't get over how quiet and fast it purrs along. Wheee! Bought a few pumpkins to usher in Fall. Leaves drift from the tall, front yard maples and the warm morning air smells of seasoned grass and summers' growth.
